In February 2021, an agenda item was put forward to require audio recordings of all public meetings, including sparsely attended committee meetings usually held during the daytime. A majority of the county board voted this down. What could possibly be the downside of having audio recordings of public meetings available to the public??? The only public argument against it was that it would be an inconvenience for the board members to pick up an audio recorder from the court house. Guess where the majority of the meetings are held at... Yes, at the court house. What is more of an inconvenience is the the meetings being held during work hours, and the general public not being able to attend, nor obtain any audio or video recordings of these public meetings. Having audio recordings would allow members of the public to be able to listen on their own time. But not having to go through the process of requesting the audio file from the court house would be better too. Stay tuned...
