THIS IS DEREK

He's in Government?  How did this happen?!?!?

When I was asked to fill in a spot on the County Board, my first response was "No Way!"  Then thought about it more, and decided somebody had to do it.  My background is I've been self employed since age 19.  Success only comes from strict financial management and innovative thinking, both of which the county needs.  While most cannot function if they have more than a few things going on at once, I work best when taking on dozens of challenges simultaneously.  My background in martial arts since age 7 is what I credit to being able to multi-task at a much higher level than most.  I operate 2 businesses, with my family, and 2 kids.  I work 60-70 hours per week.  Like you, I could have said "I don't have the time to serve on the County Board."  But no excuses, if you see a problem that needs fixed, be the change you want to see.  It can be a fun and challenging experience if you like problem solving and making improvements to your community.  We need good people like you to get involved!

If you dont know anything about government, dont worry, I wasnt paying attention until a couple of years ago either.  You can learn it, and help guide it for your family's future.  The most important thing is the process thats in place.  Our government process, without the human element is nearly perfect.  The human element is what gives it flaws.  But if you start by asking the question "What does the law say?" then you are already on your way to fixing many issues. If you dont like the laws, we have a process for changing that too.  But when county board members dont follow the laws, you wind up with this person doing one thing, another person doing something different, and you end up with a mess.  Thats why following the laws and the process is important.  To start with, every county board member needs to read the County Code, 55 ILCS.  Its like an employee handbook and tells you exactly what all you are allowed to do, and what is expected of you.
