Shelby County Resolution: Protection of Children's Rights & Optional Masks in Schools

While the rest of the economy has returned to normal, children and schools have not been afforded the same opportunity, already being pressured to require masks again this fall. The IL Dept of Public Health (IDPH) had repealed the mask mandate on May 17th, and shortly thereafter the IL State Board of Education (ISBE) had issued "guidance" that schools should do masks again this fall. There are several key problems with this...

  • ISBE is not a lawmaking body.

  • ISBE is not a health governing body.

  • Everything ISBE does is controlled by state law, 105 ILCS.

  • Nothing in state law gives ISBE power over schools to require masks.

  • Issuing this "guidance" many months ahead of time implies its not based on metrics.

  • "Guidance" is not the same as a law. Schools need to understand this.

  • No laws have been changed by our legislature that allows ISBE to control masks.

  • There's plenty of data that suggests masks are a bad idea.

  • There's no data to support that masks did anything to change the outcome in schools.

  • Its important to stick with laws and facts, rather than opinion or emotion.

  • Numerous other schools know this & and have already decided on optional masks.

Schools/Counties that have already implemented mask optional policies: Hancock County (see resolution), Warsaw School (watch interview), Legacy Christian, Patoka, Bridgeport, Flanagan-Cornell Unit 74, Elmhurst Timothy Christian, Jasper County, Hutsonville, Dunlap, Lake Zurich

Based on all facts and laws available, a County Resolution has been drafted (CLICK HERE TO VIEW FULL RESOLUTION!) to be voted on by the Shelby County Board on Thursday, July 8th, 2021, at 7pm. I believe we have 100% support for this! Numerous individuals, groups, and departments have assisted in creating this resolution over the past 6 weeks. I sincerely thank each and every one of you for taking the time to help! The parents, children, and teachers in our community will greatly appreciate it.

But now we need those individuals help and support. If you are a parent, grandparent, child in school, teacher, or just a concerned citizen, show up to support the Vote on this Resolution at the Shelby County Court House on July 8th, 2021, 7pm! AND INVITE FRIENDS!

NEXT: You will need to talk to your local school board members 1 week before their next meeting and ask them to put a discussion AND VOTE on updating mask policy on their next agenda. Share with your friends too. Here's the contact info for Shelby County Schools:
